There has been much excitement as Rising Pune Supergiant beat Mumbai Indians at a match that took place in Mumbai. Rising Pune Supergiant ended the game on 162/4 to Mumbai Indian’s 142/9. The team beat Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 by 20 runs in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Last year, Rising Pune Supergiant held only the seventh position in the IPL, just one place from the bottom of the points table. This year, Rising Pune Supergiant is through to the final match of the 10th Indian Premier League 2017.

Rising Pune Supergiant might not have had a good start, however, the team gained strength with half-centuries by Manoj Tiwary and Ajinkya Rahane, and an extra push by MS Dhoni at the end. Rahane made 56, which included a six, and five boundaries. Tiwany ended on 58, and Dhoni finished on 40 runs that included five sixes.

Shardul Thakur commented on the win: “It feels great. It is our first final for Rising Pune Supergiant. We have put in a lot of hard work, winning nine games of 14 wasn’t easy and I feel winning this one against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai was something special.”

Rising Pune Supergiant scored 41 runs in the final two overs of the match. This is more than any other side has scored against Mumbai Indians in the final two overs. In 2012, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore each managed 37 runs in the final two overs against Mumbai Indians.

In this year’s IPL, MS Dhoni has hit 16 sixes and 14 fours. With more matches to go, there is a good chance these numbers will continue to rise. Dhoni is not a newcomer to the IPL final, however, he the six finals he has been in previously were when he played with the Chennai Super Kings.
