The Delhi Daredevils batsman, Shreyas Iyer, helped take his team to a win against Gujarat Lions yesterday. The Delhi Daredevils were chasing a total of 195 runs, and managed to finish with 197, winning by two wickets.
Iyer contributed 96 of the 197 runs off of 57 balls. He was bowled out when the team still needed seven runs in the final over. Amit Mishra did not disappoint as he hit two boundaries one after the other. Mishra helped the team end the match with two balls to spare and two wickets ahead.
“You must back yourself all the time,” said Iyer. “In a format like T20s, you can chase any total. What I have realised playing this format is that you can cover up later even if you have consumed a few dot balls early. The mantra to succeed is to keep believing in yourself and keep backing yourself.”
He explained that you need to believe that you can in fact defend any total. The Delhi Daredevils may have had a couple of games this season that have had very low run totals, but at the same time, the team has chased totals of over 200 runs twice.
He said: “If one player does not perform, someone else steps up and does the job. As far as improvement is concerned, we can improve every day. We must believe in each other and end the season on a good note.”
The Delhi Daredevils are currently sixth in the Points Table, with 10 points, following the Kings XI Punjab who are have 12 points. At this time, Mumbai Indians is at the top of the Points Table with 18, the Kolkata Knight Riders with 16, and Rising Pune Supergiants also with 16 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad are in the fourth position with 15 points, followed by Kings XI Punjab, and the Delhi Daredevils.
