Sri Lanka Wins 1st One Day International

The first of three One Day International matches scheduled between India and Sri Lanka has taken place. The visitors, Sri Lanka, have beaten their Indian hosts by seven wickets. The match took place in Dharamsala at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

India ended the ODI with 112 runs in 38.2 overs. Sri Lanka was up to bat second, and ended with 114/3 in 20.4 overs.

Sri Lankan Cricket Team Gains Confidence

The Indian team may have been confident for a win against the Sri Lankans, however, this time, there was nothing close about the results, with Sri Lanka enjoying the seven-wicket win. The Sri Lankan team has been celebrating. They are now ready to focus on the second ODI in the hopes of winning two matches in a row.

Sri Lanka’s captain, Thisara Perera, commented on the win. He said: “Firstly, we need to give 200 percent credit to our bowlers. They did everything right for us, bowling in the right lines and length. Their discipline was excellent and that was the reason for our success.”

Perera spoke about the quality bowling from Upul’s opening to Lakmal’s performance. He also commended their batsmen who played well in the ODI.
“All in all, everything worked for us today,” said Perera.

Player of the Match

Sri Lanka’s fast bowler, Suranga Lakmal, was awarded the Player of the Match. Lakmal explained how he has worked hard for the past couple of years and how the coaching staff has worked with him.

He further enthused: “I am very happy with my performance today. My fitness and health have been really good over the last few days and that showed in the results today.”

Rohit Sharma Comments

Rohit acknowledged that the Indian team were not up to their usual standard in the match. He noted that it did not feel good to lose the first match in which he was captaining the team.
“We need to focus on the next two games and come out hard,” said Rohit.
