The Indian Super League (ISL) Auction is underway. Mumbai City Football Club managed to get Sunil Chhetri on its team. Chettri is the Indian football team captain, and was highly sought after. It cost Mumbai City FC Rs 1.20 crore to obtain Chhetri.
Chhetri commented on being picked for the team. He said: “Who wouldn’t be happy and excited to play alongside Nicolas Anelka. We saw him last year and we know what he can do with the ball. I am looking forward and excited to play with Anelka and the whole team.”
The Indian team captain fetched the highest base price in the auction so far. His base price began at Rs 80 lakh, and the bidding took it higher. He has played in 87 international games and has kicked in 50 goals during his career.
At a press conference, the 30-year-old Chhetri said: “As a player I understand when you lose a game and do well, the next game and next day brings about a new challenge. I am very happy and thankful that I am bought by Mumbai City FC.”
There were 10 players that were auctioned in two groups. Group A had five players, with Chettri as the star player in that group. Group B also had five players, with Rino Anto as the star player in the second group.
Atletico de Kolkata, the defending champions, managed to bid and win Rino Anto, an excellent defender, for the cost of Rs 80 lakh.
