Tamil Nadu Have Looked Outstanding In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019

By Dhanu Delphi on October 10, 2019

The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019, which started on September 29, has kept domestic players on their feet as teams from all over the country are playing ODI cricket to see which team emerges as the champions. The tournament has broken down the teams into four groups and the grand finale will take place on 10 October.

Tamil Nadu, which is part of the Elite Group C, has played outstanding cricket so far. Team TN has played 7 matches at the time of this writing and have won all 7. They sit on top of their group with 28 points, with Gujarat in second place with 24 points.

The competition hasn’t been that threatening for TN. Their wins have been against weaker teams like the Railways, Services, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Bihar. However, TN will take confidence from these wins as they prepare for the playoffs. We take a look at some of the batsmen and bowlers who have done well for Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Top Batsmen

Players know that a number of Indian Premier League scouts, as well as selectors, are keeping a close watch on the tournament. The batsmen realize that a good performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy could significantly increase their IPL auction value in rupees. A consistent performance could help them break into the India A side or even the main squad.

Baba Aparajith has been the best batsman for Tamil Nadu so far as he has not only compiled big scores but has shown that he is consistent. He has compiled scores of 52, 17, 52, 34, 86*, 87 and 111. The 25-year-old batting all-rounder has improved with each game. He has shown that he has the composure and class to excel in the number 3 position.

He has not only fired with the bat, but also made useful contributions with the ball, taking wickets throughout the tournament with his most impressive performance being against the Railways. Here, he bowled his full quota of overs, conceded just 30 runs and picked up 4 wickets.

There have also been useful contributions from the likes of Murali Vijay, Vijay Shankar and M Shahrukh Khan. However, they haven’t been as consistent as B Aparajith.

Tamil Nadu Top Bowler

Since a lot of the pitches have offered more help to the spinners than to the pacers, Krishnamoorthy Vignesh has been fantastic for TN, given the fact that he opens the bowling. He has taken a total of 13 wickets in the 7 matches that he has played. He has been pretty economical and has been a go-to bowler for captain Dinesh Karthik.

Some of the other bowlers that have made significant contributions for TN during these 7 matches include left arm medium pacer Thangarasu Natarajan and right arm medium pacer M Mohammed. These players have taken 10 wickets each.

Dinesh Karthik Shines As Captain

The experienced Karthik will be pleased with the way his side has performed. He will also be happy with his performance as captain. He has led from the front making runs with the bat with scores of 52*, 95, 97 and 40. Karthik has been good behind the stumps. He has also used his loads of experience to mentor some of the younger players in the squad.

There are many who believe that the door has been shut on Karthik with regards to making a comeback to international cricket for India. He has failed to make the most of his many chances in both ODI and T20 formats. However, if Karthik can continue his good run of form with the bat and help Tamil Nadu get their hands on the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he will send a strong message to the selectors!
