With the India – Sri Lanka World Twenty20 2014 cricket match taking place today, it remains to be seen whether India will win. If India does win, the Indian cricket team will be the first cricket to team that has held all three of the one-day world cricket titles.
In 2011, India won the 50-over World Cup, and last year, in 2013, India won the Champions Trophy, If India wins this year’s World Twenty20 that is taking place in Dhaka, the Indian cricket team will have one all three of the world one-day titles.
MS Dhoni, the Indian cricket team’s captain, said: “It’s not just the self-belief but the belief in each other that is crucial.”
With India unbeaten at this time, being the only unbeaten cricket side in this tournament so far, there is a good chance that the team will manage to win this third world one-day title. The Sri Lankan team team has not done so well in earlier world title finals, which raises the chances of India winning today.
India’s Virat Kholi, has been the leading scorer so far in this tournament, with 242 runs having taken place over five games. Sri Lanka’s top scorer has been Mahela Jayawardene, who has scored 134 runs.
After the final, Sri Lanka will be saying goodbye to some of their veteran players, Mahela Jayawardene, and Kumar Sangkkara. The two players will no longer be playing international Twenty20 cricket after today’s match. In both 2007 and 2011, Sril Lanka lost the 50-Over World Cup finals, and in 2009 and 2012, the team also lost the World Twenty20 finals.
Virat Kohli, who is expected to continue to play an excellent game in the final, noted that “Sri Lanka are never a team to take lightly.”
Kohli also commented: “There is a good feeling around the team, but we have to make a fresh start in the final.”
