Tollywood Comedian Arrested for Card Playing
The Tollywood comedian, Karate Kalyani, was arrested along with 11 others who were caught playing cards during a raid. The raid took place in the Vanasthalipuram area at the Jahangir Colony on Sunday evening.
The actress is known for her comedy roles, which she carries off with excellent timing in Telugu films. Her timing, being at the illegal card game in Hyderabad could not have been more off.
“A case has been registered on relevant sections of the Gambling Act and we are investigating further,” said Vanasthalipuram SI Devender.
The raid took place after a tip-off was given to the police. There were eight mobile phones that were seized at the scene, along with Rs 75,000. When the police began the raid, a number of the gamblers attempted to run away, but the police managed to catch them, and the evening ended with 12 arrests for illegal gambling.
Kalyani had no hesitation when speaking to the media regarding her arrest. She claimed that she was forcefully involved, and claims she had no knowledge of the issue. She said that there were many people playing cards, and that she was simply arrested along with the others. Kalyani has claimed that facts in the news articles regarding her arrest for playing cards are not all correct, and that there are those who are trying to defame her.
Kalyani became famous for her role with her “Abbaa Bobby” dialogue that took place in the film Mirapakai by Raviteja. She has acted in over 100 films, and played some roles in TV serials. Her work as a character actress with good comic timing has made her well loved amongst fans. She has acted in Gorantha Deepam, a daily soap, and has held other small roles, such as the woman who sells dosas in Godavari, and Bobby’s maid in Krishna.
