After two disappointing Test matches, things are looking up for the India national cricket team. Virat Kohli is on top form playing at Trent Bridge. India has set a very high total, which is likely to win the team the third Test against England.
Kohli Hits a Hundred
Kohli was close to his hundred when he hit an outswinger towards Keaton Jennings. Luck was with Kohli because Jennings did not make the catch, rather giving Kohli a boundary. He then followed this with a century soon after in the next over. This was Kohli’s 23rd Test century, taking him to the same number of centuries is Steve Smith, who had previously maintained the top position.
Kohli’s century and his near-century took him to twice as many runs as any players have reached so far in the England-India Test series.
Michael Vaughan Comments
Michael Vaughan, the former England cricket team captain, voiced his opinion regarding Kohli.
He said: “There are many really great players but he is the stand-out across all the three formats of this era by a country mile. He’s got the gift to play all around the wicket in every single format.”
Vaughan further noted: “On this tour, he has left well and made the bowlers bowl to him. It looks to me though as he has been working on this for some time, and came with a clear plan.”
Vaughan described Kohli as a “wonder.”
Many doubted whether Kohli could bat well in English conditions, and he has proved the naysayers wrong.
“No question in my mind; he is the best batsman in the world across all three formats. He is an unbelievable player,” said Vaughan.
World Record Target
India set a world-record target of 521 runs for England. The question is whether India can maintain this level of playing for the next two Test matches.
