Virat Kohli had not been happy with his performance when he had played on the 2014 cricket tour in England. Later this year, Kohli and the national India cricket team are set to tour England again.
Summer in Surrey for Kohli
In order to improve his skills in the different playing conditions in England, Kohli has decided to spend some time playing with Surrey in the summer. At this time, it is unclear how long his County Championship stint will be.
Kohli’s cricket has been getting better and better. He has risen to a level where he rubs shoulders with the best batsmen in the world. Despite this, he plays a somewhat average game in Test matches in England. In 2014, he made an average of 13.40 across five games.
The only way to improve his batting skills in England is to spend time playing cricket in English conditions.
Kohli to Miss Afghanistan Test
Kohli is likely to join the Surrey team in June 2018. This means that the India team captain will not be leading his team against Afghanistan. The Test between India and Afghanistan is a landmark for the visiting team when they play their first ever Test against India on 14th June in Bengaluru.
The reason that Kohli is likely to miss the Afghanistan Test is because Surrey has matches scheduled at that time. The Surrey team is set to play matches against Yorkshire, Hampshire, and Somerset overlapping the Afghanistan dates.
Kohli will be doing his stint at the Oval, the Surrey cricket team’s base. The stint will begin after the 2018 Indian Premier League is over.
India Tour of England
The Indian cricket team will be touring England starting on 3rd July 2018. The team will play three One Day Internationals, and three T20 Internationals. After this, starting on 1st August, there will be a five-match Test series.
