West Indies v India 1st ODI: Cricket Betting Tips

By Matt Harris on August 7, 2019

The first of three ODIs goes off on Thursday between the West Indies and India. Having secured that whitewash in the 20 over format, India are hot favourites to record an opening win. But what are our 1st ODI tips for West Indies v India ahead of tomorrow’s match? And what betting odds are currently being offered to cricket bettors at the sportsbooks?  Read on to find out!

India completed a 3-0 clean sweep of the T20 leg of their West Indies Tour with a dominant win on Tuesday. The teams now stay in Providence, Guyana for a 50-over series and with Virat Kohli’s men strengthened by the return of key bowlers, the tourists look in good shape.

What are the 1st ODI tips for West Indies v India?

India were favourites all the way through the T20 series and they’ve shortened considerably for this first ODI. Virat Kohli’s men are available at 1.33, while the West Indies can be picked up at 3.40 with Bet365.

There’s no Jasprit Bumrah on the white-ball legs of this tour. However, India will welcome back Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav. West Indies have strengthened, too with the return of skipper Jason Holder and, most crucially, star batsman Chris Gayle.

Still, with most of this West Indian side struggling against India’s back-up bowling attack, we can’t see an improvement coming in this ODI series. The Windies’ best chance of winning came in their favoured T20 format. Consequently, we’re backing the tourists all the way here.

Match Odds Summary: West Indies: 3.40, India 1.33 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick)

What are the top batsman 1st ODI tips for West Indies v India?

– West Indies Batsman Picks

Gayle’s return sees the left hander slot in as second favourite to top score against India on Thursday. The big Jamaican can be claimed at 4.25, while Shai Hope leads this market at 4.00.

Next is Evin at 5.50, followed by John Campbell at the same 5.50. There’s no Kieron Pollard in this series, though, and that’s bad news following his starring role with the bat during the T20s. Instead, you may want to take a Satta on Nicholas Pooran at 6.00, Shimron Hetmyer at 6.75, or Carlos Brathwaite at 23.00 with Betway.

– India Batsman Picks

For India, we have a familiar favourite in the shape of Virat Kohli at 3.10. Rohit Sharma follows at 3.25, while the out-of-form Shikhar Dhawan can be picked up at 5.00.

Rishabh Pant starred in the final T20i and is available at an excellent price of 11.00. Pant is as short as 5.50 in other places, so you may well want a small Satta here. Elsewhere, other Indian batters include KL Rahul at 6.00, Manish Pandey at 6.50, Shreyas Iyer at 6.50 and Kedar Jadhav at 13.00.

There are some interesting prices on both sides and the potential for some serious value in the West Indian camp. As always, we’ll stay with India for our tip and go with an old favourite of ours – Rohit Sharma.

On Tuesday, Rohit rested for the final T20 match. However, he’s likely to come straight back in for Thursday’s first ODI. The opener top scored in both of the opening matches on this tour, and is in excellent form and ready to deliver another profit here.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: West Indies: Hope 4.00, Gayle 4.25, Lewis 5.50, Campbell 5.50, Pooran 6.00, Hetmyer 6.75, Brathwaite 23.00.

India: Kohli 3.10, Sharma 3.25 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Dhawan 5.00, Rahul 6.00, Pandey 6.50, Iyer 6.50, Pant 11.50, Jadhav 13.00.

What are the in match hundred scored 1st ODI tips for West Indies v India?

The sportsbooks have been a little slow to open markets for this match. Therefore, we don’t have a lot to offer in the way of prop bets. However, we think we have spotted some value in the Hundred in Match Odds. We’re subsequently taking the ‘No’ option at 2.20.

After a low scoring T20 series, we’re not expecting a feast of runs in the ODIs. Furthermore, if the West Indies take first knock, the bet has a great chance of landing. Whatever happens at the toss, a subdued game should help us round off with a profit.

Will a Hundred be Scored in the Match Odds Summary: Yes: 1.66, No: 2.20 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick).
