India has won the third Test in the three-match series. South Africa may have won the series with 2 – 1, but India avoided a whitewash. The Indian cricket team won by 63 runs.
There were some delays because of a damp outfield, however, play did continue. The Indian team took nine wickets in 53 runs. Hashim Amla was caught out, and later AB de Villiers was also dismissed. After the tea break, another four wickets were taken in just 15 balls.
Yet Another Wanderers Win for India
It was important for the Indian team to end the three-Test series with at least one game in their favor. Despite having lost the first two matches, and therefore the Test series, the team did not want to end with a 0 – 3 result.
In addition to simply wanting to avoid a whitewash, India has a history of winning Tests at The Wanderers in Johannesburg. The team has an unbeaten record of only winning Test matches at the South African cricket stadium.
All Wickets Fell in Three-Test Series
The Test series certainly had an unexpected finish. An interesting fact about this three-Test series is that all 120 wickets fell. This is the only three-Test series in which all the wickets fell.
