Traveling around the world can be quite taxing on a sports team. The Indian cricket team would have an easier time, and would cope better with their busy schedule if they had their own airplane. At least, that is what Kapil Dev, the former Indian cricket team captain, has suggested.
Dev has suggested that the team has its own airplane in order to reduce the time spent traveling, and the fatigue that results from travel since at times, the Indian cricket team has a very busy schedule. He has also suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can foot the bill.
Kapil Dev Wants BCCI to Buy Team India an Airplane
“Now that BCCI is making good money, it should have its own plane,” said Dev. “It will save a lot of time and make life easier for Team India. The board can afford it. They should have done it five years ago.”
He also expressed the opinion that he would “love to see some cricketers buying their own aircraft” in the future. Dev noted that some top US golfers own their own airplanes, and that it would be a good idea for cricketers to do the same.
This is not the first time that Dev has made this suggestion. It seems he suggested that the BCCI buy airplanes for the cricket team about three years ago. In addition to this, he felt that hotel bills are too high, and suggested that the BCCI establish guest houses in the main cities in which the Indian team plays.
Team India has a Busy Schedule Ahead
Over the next few months, India will be hosting teams, which means less travel. The Australia series has already kicked off with a warm-up game, after which the team will play New Zealand, and then Sri Lanka. In January 2018, the Indian cricket team will once again be on the road as they head off to a tour in South Africa.
