The contracts with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been announced for the 2014 – 2015 cricket season. It has been noted that both Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir have been dropped from the central contracts list. While these two players look as if they are on their way out, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been promoted to the Grade A contract list.
Both Gambhir and Yuvraj were left out of the preliminary 30-member World Cup squad for next year. While Gambhir has simply not being playing on his top form, Yuvraj has simply not reached his former level of excellence since his battle with cancer. Although Yuvraj was awarded the player of the series for the World Cup back in 2011, he has not been able to get back to his former ability. He did, however, score two centuries in domestic cricket games since the announcement was made.
According to Sanjay Patel, the secretary of the Board, the decision was made based on player performance in the 2013 – 2014 season, as well as in consultation with the national selectors. While the retainer fees have not yet been confirmed for the upcoming season, last year’s retainer fees were Rs 1 crore for Grade A, Rs 50 lakh for Grade B, and Rs 25 lakh for Grade C.
Players that have been awarded Grade A BCCI contracts for the upcoming season are Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Grade B contracts have been given to Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Mohammed Shami. Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, and Umesh Yadav.
Those who have been given Grade C contracts include Amit Mishra, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, Stuart Binny, Pankaj Singh, R. Vinay Kumar, Varun Aaron, Wriddhiman Saha, Karn Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Axar Patel, Manoj Tiwary, Dhawal Kulkarni, Parveez Rasooll, KL Rahul, and Robin Uthappa.
