Liverpool Preview Ahead Of UCL 2022 Final
Liverpool suffered last-day heartbreak in the English Premier League. Despite going a goal down at home to Wolves in the final match of the season, they were in an advantageous position in relation to title rivals Manchester City for most of the afternoon, who were themselves 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa.
Liverpool turned things around, ultimately winning 3-1 but Manchester City did the same, winning 3-2, in the end, to defend their Premier League title and pip Liverpool to it by just one point.
But it’s been an excellent season for Liverpool nonetheless. They may have been second in the league, but they won the EFL Cup and FA Cup, beating Chelsea in the final on penalties on both occasions.
In the Champions League, they beat Inter Milan, Benfica, and Villarreal in the knockout stages to book their place in the final.
2022 Champions League Final: Real Madrid Preview
Los Merengues have had a superb season of their own. Real Madrid won La Liga very comfortably in the end, finishing 13 points ahead of runners-up Barcelona, and losing just four matches all season in La Liga.
However, they did go off the boil slightly on the domestic front after wrapping up the title.
First, they lost to rivals Atletico Madrid at the start of the month. Madrid did admittedly bounce back to beat Levante 6-0 but then managed just draws with Cadiz and Betis. It’s understandable that they were focusing on this match with the league title won but won’t have wanted to lose too much momentum going into this game.
Having knocked out PSG in the Last 16 round, Real Madrid then shocked both Chelsea and Manchester City with dramatic turnarounds, including scoring two injury-time goals at home to City when the tie looked done and dusted.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid prediction 1: Back The Draw @ 3.6
Real Madrid may be somewhat underrated here, with Liverpool perhaps a little too short in the Liverpool v Real Madrid odds, despite the fact they do deserve to be favorites.
Real Madrid’s ease in winning La Liga by such a large margin was extremely impressive and they also really impressed in the Champions League.
Yes, they rode their luck on occasion and as we said already, at times were largely dependent on the performance and goals of Karim Benzema. But we can’t ignore that in PSG they beat a highly fancied side and in knocking out Man City, beat arguably the best club side in the world and the tournament favorites. For good measure, they also beat the defending champions, Chelsea, in the quarterfinals.
It’s worth remembering that though Liverpool won both their domestic cups this season, they needed penalties in both matches, meaning the game was drawn after 90 minutes on both occasions.
When you consider that Liverpool will be more fatigued than Real, having fought for the Premier League title to the bitter end while Real had already won theirs a few weeks ago, and you can see why it may not be plain sailing for the Reds.
The draw after 90 minutes looks the best option in the match winner market at 3.6 and is our first Liverpool v Real Madrid prediction.
Liverpool v Real Madrid prediction 2: Back Karim Benzema To Score @ 2.2
We’ve probably mentioned Benzema more than any other player so far in this Liverpool v Real Madrid prediction article but with good reason.
Aged 34, the Frenchman has probably just enjoyed the best season of his career. He scored 49 goals in 52 matches this season, also counting international appearances.
His 27 league goals were nine more than anyone else managed (Celta’s Iago Aspas got 18) and he was also the top-scorer in the Champions League this season with 15 in 11 games.
And he’s certainly come up trumps in the big games. Across six knockout matches, he scored 10 goals. He’ll also be on penalty duty and is normally pretty ruthless from the spot so that’s yet another reason to back him to score.
2022 Champions League Final: Liverpool v Real Madrid Team News
For Real Madrid, center-back David Alaba has been an injury concern for the past few days but has since recovered and is fit to play.
As is Gareth Bale, the hero from that final from four years ago, though it remains to be seen if he gets onto the pitch after being out-of-favor all season. This is likely to be his last-ever match for Real.
Liverpool have bigger concerns. Though Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah have both recovered from injuries and will be available to start the match, playmaker Thiago Alcantara hobbled off before half-time in that Wolves match with an injury and is unlikely to be able to play the final, which is a big blow for Jurgen Klopp.
Defender Joe Gomez is also injured but was unlikely to have started the game anyway so is less of a loss to the Reds.

Liverpool v Real Madrid Head-to-Head Record
In total, these two giants of European football have played each other eight times in official competitions. There have been three Liverpool wins, one draw, and four wins for Real Madrid.
Liverpool beat Real 1-0 in the 1980/81 European Cup final but Real got revenge for that win when they beat them 3-1 in the final of the 2017/18 Champions League. That was the famous match where Mo Salah had to come off injured before half-time and where Gareth Bale scored two late brilliant goals after coming on as a substitute. The scorer of the other goal? Benzema, of course!
But these two also played each other in last year’s knockout stages of the Champions League. After a 0-0 in the first leg at Anfield, Real won 3-1 at home.
