Who are the IPL 2020 betting favourites?

Both Bet365 and Betway have set very close odds for the three teams vying for the honour of being IPL 2020 favourites.

They have set the pre-season odds for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians all between 5/1 and 6/1.

The Sunrisers are arguably the side that one looks at and wonders whether they should be as short as they are. After all, they’ve only won the IPL once in their history. However, their side looks incredibly strong in terms of overseas imports; with David Warner, Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow and Mitchell Marsh in their ranks. They don’t seem to have the local players to provide the necessary balance, though.

The same can’t be said of Mumbai Indians. They have the likes of overseas stars Kieron Pollard, Quinton de Kock, Chris Lynn and Lasith Malinga for starters, but the quality of their Indian players is top notch as well. That starts with skipper Rohit Sharma, arguably the best T20 opening batsman in the world; and continues with the two Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal). The pair are genuine all-rounders who can both win matches with either bat or ball. Other notable local stars are specialist death bowler Jasprit Bumrah and medium pacer Dhawal Kulkarni.

Unlike Hyderabad only having tasted IPL success once, the Mumbai Indians have won four IPL titles already – more than any other team. That belief and experience of getting over the line could prove priceless once again.

Sportsbetting.net IPL 2020 Betting Favourite: Chennai Super Kings

Online cricket betting odds also have the Chennai Super Kings at the 11/2 mark. If Mumbai are the most successful side in IPL history, then Chennai are the most consistent.

Of the 11 IPL editions they took part in, they have been participated in the IPL Final in nine of them. Nine finals in 11 attempts is testament not only to their consistency, but to the ability of skipper MS Dhoni to always prepare his team to be super-competitive under any condition.

This is arguably the best-drilled and most organised of all the IPL teams and though they need to improve on their record in IPL finals, they’re the smart IPL satta because you always know what you’re going to get with them: lots of experience, excellent captaincy and a long batting line-up. They’re the best and most confident of our online cricket betting tips for the IPL, before it begins.

The mid-priced IPL teams

The Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Capitals come next in the betting, with both Bet365 and Betway agreeing that the trio rate as roughly 8/1 odds to win.

Of these three, Bangalore should be dismissed straight away. They may have Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (and more recently Aussie pair Kane Richardson and Aaron Finch), but that has never been enough in the past and it’s unlikely to be enough now. Year after year they come across as unbalanced and with no set game plans and are definitely a team to avoid. After all, they’ve never won the IPL in the past.

Toss up between KKR and DC

The Kolkata Knight Riders are a somewhat different animal. They’ve won this tournament before in their heyday and a quick look at their squad suggests they’ve got all bases covered.

The jewel in the crown is West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell. He can bowl fast and hit the ball harder and further than just about anyone in the game, but his is a fragile body means an injury is never too far away. Players such as Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav are all fine T20 exponents but they’ve struggled a little over the past couple of seasons and here at Sportsbetting.net, they’re not a satta to be recommended.

If you want a team in this price range, choose the Delhi Capitals. They have arguably the most destructive batting line-up of anyone in the IPL which includes Rishabh Pant, Alex Carey, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. If their bowlers can back them up, they can go very far indeed. It won’t be the pace bowlers doing the business because they don’t have many class exponents in that discipline, but they do have an army of spinners who can keep the run rate down and take wickets in the middle overs.

To Finish Bottom

The Rajasthan Royals are the favourites for the wooden spoon with the King XI Punjab—perennial strugglers in the IPL—just after them in the betting. At bigger prices, it might be worth chancing those Royal Challengers.

Not only do they pack their side with too many star batsmen without paying sufficient attention to bowlers, but that also means they find it very hard to defend totals. Unfortunately for them, they won’t always get the chance to chase like they want to and any match where they post anything less than a par score is likely to see them come unstuck.
