The UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas will play host to another Fight Night card on May 8. The UFC has done a good job to put this card together as a number of fights fell through which included the original main event which featured former UFC bantamweight champ TJ Dillawshaw vs. Cory Sandhagen and a bout between Donald Cerrone and Diego Sanchez.
The UFC had to scrap the main event as TJ Dillawshaw got injured and asked for the fight to be rescheduled. Veteran Diego Sanchez was released by the UFC last week as Sanchez and his controversial coach Joshua Fabia were hesitant to confirm that Sanchez was okay to fight. The UFC paid Diego Sanchez both his win show money and win money and parted ways.
Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson has been promoted to the new Main Event while Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone vs. Alex Morono will be the new co-main event. There are also a number of other exciting fights on the main card and the prelims.
If you are looking to bet on this UFC Fight Night card or other UFC fights, you can register at any of the below sportsbooks.
Rodriguez vs. Waterson
Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson fight in the strawweight division but will be moving up a weight class for this fight. Since the UFC wanted them to Main Event and do a 5 round bout, the two fighters preferred to not cut the extra weight and fight in the strawweight division.
While not dropping the extra weight will benefit both fighters, we believe that it will give Rodriguez a bigger edge. Bet365 has Rodriguez as the betting favorite in this fight with odds of 1.50 while Waterson is the underdog with odds of 2.70. Rodriguez is definitely the better striker in this game while Waterson does have a good ground game but Rodriguez is no slouch on the ground as well.
The big question for Rodriguez is whether she will be able to adjust to a Main Event and go all 5 rounds if required. Our MMA experts believe that Rodriguez will finish the fight and come out with her hands raised.
Cerrone vs. Morono
Cowboy Cerrone was training hard to fight former teammate turned rival Diego Sanchez and send him into retirement. Cowboy will no longer be fighting Sanchez but he knows that if he suffers another loss, it could very well be his last fight in the UFC. He has a tough opponent in Alex Morono who is coming off a loss to Anthony Pettis in his last fight.
Bookmakers have Cowboy as the betting favorite with odds of 1.75 while Morono is the underdog with odds of 2.25. We are going to put our money on Cowboy as he is fighting for his future in the UFC and is very keen to secure a win and keep fighting!
Other Exciting Fights
Some of the other exciting fights on this card include a welterweight fight between Neil Magny (2.62) and Geoff Neal (1.53) Neal is the better striker in this fight but Magny is a crafty veteran who will use his cardio to his advantage. We would put our money on Magny for this one.
The next fight will see Amanda Ribas fight Angela Hill in the strawweight division. Ribas is the favorite with odds of 1.57 and Hill is the underdog with odds of 2.50. We pick Ribas to win by submission.
Also keep an eye out for the return of Gregor Gillespie (1.57) who takes on the dangerous Diego Ferreira (2.50).
