William Hill is the most popular bookmaker with headquarters in the United Kingdom. They have 2300 live betting shops, over 16,000 employees and it’s not uncommon for them to accept 100,000 unique wagers on a single sports match or race. Keep in mind, sport betting has been legal in the UK since 1960 and brick and mortar betting shops can be found in London just as easily as we can find petrol pumps in India – William Hills Is the largest, both in number of shop locations and total wagers they accept.

In addition to live betting shops, their company runs an online betting site based out of and licensed in Gibraltar. Here anyone from around the globe, including India, can access sports betting, horse racing, online casinos, poker and bingo from a single player account. On the sports betting side the markets are massive. Their bread and butter is football betting, where they cover all the major and minor domestic leagues of each country (including I-League), but they also have great odds on cricket (Including IPL), tennis, Formula 1, golf, hockey, motor sport, volleyball, baseball, basketball, gridiron, fighting and more. You can even bet Olympics online at williamhill.com.

NOTE FOR INDIAN PLAYERS: William Hill announced they are no longer accepting Indian players as of December 11, 2013. We recommend using Betway.com for Indian players. They accept INR directly and are the most popular site among our visitors.

Should Indians use William Hill?

William Hill serviced Indians very well for several years. They allowed Indians to register with their home address, and to make deposits and withdrawals using Skrill, Neteller, or EntroPay. However, I’ll be honest though, while their offers were outstanding – they were quite similar to those offered by Betway. At Betway Indians can deposit, wager and withdrawal in Indian rupee. At William Hill the available currencies are Australian Dollar (AUD), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Swiss Franc (CHF), Danish Krone (DKK), Euro (EUR), Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), Japanese Yen (JPY), Swedish Krona (SEK), Singapore Dollar (SGD), UK Pound Sterling (GBP) and United States Dollar (USD). Please notice – Indian Rupee (INR) is NOT included on that list.

Although, most Indians would prefer to deal with a rupee bookmaker, there were advantages to using William Hill. If you wagered on major sports popular in the UK such as English Premier League, Formula 1, International Cricket, Golf, Tennis and Darts – having a William Hill account will helped serious punters get the better odds. You see Will Hill has about 25% market share in the UK, meaning of all sports wagers placed in England about 25% are placed either at williamhill.com or in person at one of their 2300 live betting shops. For this reason William Hill dominates the market. They are the first to post odds on sports events UK residents wager on, and are also the first to move the odds.

However, with all that said Betway has remained to service Indian customers. Not only do they offer a Stirling reputation, but they also allow deposits in INR, which is a huge plus. See our full review of Betway for India.

Great Promotions

Another reason to have a William Hill account is their promotion offers. While these are not advertised, anyone with a recent wagering history will routinely receive emails inviting them to take advantage of promotions such as a risk free bets or increased odds. Even if Bet365 or Betfair are your primary betting outs, you’ll near certainly gain an advantage keeping a William Hill account funded, and then placing a few small wagers each week.

William Hill Features

As I mentioned in the intro William Hill offers a vast number of sports markets, and also offers horse racing, bingo, casino games and poker from a single website. One the primary reason to open an account today is their unique bonus offer which you can find at williamhill.com. Another reason is that Will Hill is a very well trusted company (largest in the UK) that services Indians very well in terms of payouts. Here you can withdrawal via Skrill, Neteller or EntroPay or for a small fee you can cash out via an urgent international bank wire and have the funds into your account the next day. Some of the features I enjoy about William Hill are covered below.

    • Live Streams and In Play – via their website you’ll find live streams of UK and Irish horse races, football matches from around the globe, UK and Asia basketball matches, major ATP and WTA tennis events, live One Day Internationals and Twenty20 internationals for cricket, and live rugby league from the NRL. For all these matches Live Betting is available.
    • Mobile Phone Wagering – Will Hill has unique software that makes betting from your mobile phone a breeze and they even accept wagers placed via text messenger. Additionally they have a number of Mobile Apps that help save time in research. This includes Racing Post which has racing news, riders, runners, tips and more, and Day Trader which allows betting on financial markets via an iPad.
    • Guaranteed Odds – For Horse Racing, futures can be bet on with no risk of losing the price. If you bet on a future and the SP comes in higher, you’ll be paid the SP!
    • Most Markets Period – It is not uncommon pre-match for William Hill to offer 87 different markets on a single event. I could cover them all here but it would take away the surprise. Seriously visit williamhill.com and navigate around a bit, you’ll be shocked at all the different ways there are to wager on a single event.

Licensing and Disputes

William Hill complaints are quite rare. Their company has been in business since 1934, and they have over 16,000 employees and 2300 live betting shops in the UK. However in the rare event a dispute does arise, you’ll be happy to know their internet division is licensed by one of the strictest gambling commission in Europe the GRA. You can confirm their license is in good standing on the Government of Gibraltar website where their relevant license is issued to WHG (International) Ltd (RGL No. 042) in the category ‘fixed odds’.

William Hill is also an Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) registered bookmaker. The IBAS is an organization mediates disputes between gambling operators and their customers, and all IBAS registered companies agree to abide by IBAS’s decisions. In the unlikely event you have a William Hill complaint you should first deal with their staff. If your problem goes unresolved, you can request IBAS mediate the issue; this ensures your case will be heard.

William Hill Conclusions

At Sports Betting we are highly critical of online bookmakers and do our best to only recommend the most trustworthy betting sites. William Hill was an easy choice to for our recommendation list due to their longevity in the industry, impressive number of markets and very timely payments. The industry’s two most respected gambling portals rank them very well; they are rated A at SBR, and 4.5 of 5.0 at Bookmakers Review. If you’re looking for a safe and secure betting operator, you are in good hands with williamhill.com.
