The 2021 IPL is scheduled to take place form April 9 to May 31 across six states in India. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions and are once again betting favorites to win their sixth IPL Championship. Delhi Capitals who lost to Mumbai Indians in the finals also have a good chance of winning their first IPL championship.
We take a look at the betting odds for an outright series win for both teams and give you a breakdown on their strengths and weaknesses heading into the 2021 IPL season. If you are interested in betting on IPL games, you can register at any of the following betting sites listed below.
Mumbai Indians – Betting Odds
The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been the two most dominant teams in the IPL for over a decade. However, during the last two seasons the Mumbai Indians have surged ahead of CSK and now hold the record for the most number of IPL Championships and are also the franchise with the highest brand value in the IPL.
Bet365 currently has the Mumbai Indians at 4.33 to win the 2021 IPL Championship. It is hard to argue with those odds given how dominant and powerful the Mumbai Indians are. The owners have done a great job in keeping the core team together which has been their main reason for success.
Mumbai Indians have also chopped and changed heading into the 2021 IPL season by letting go of some of their fringe players and bringing in a few new faces that make the team even stronger. Rohit Sharma will once again lead the Mumbai Indians in their quest to win their sixth IPL championship.
The Mumbai Indians have great depth in both their batting and bowling departments. They also have good bench strength in case they have any injuries during the tournament. We would definitely put our money on the Mumbai Indians to make it to another final. However, it will be quite a feat for the Mumbai Indians to win three IPL trophies in a row and hence we are not going to pick them to win the IPL.
Delhi Capitals – Betting Odds
Delhi Capitals have played well during the last two editions of the IPL under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The Capitals need a little more consistency going for them in 2021 as it will help them build their confidence when it comes to the playoffs. We felt that the Delhi Capitals was a bit overwhelmed in the 2020 IPL finals against the Mumbai Indians.
The Capitals are currently the second favorite team after Mumbai Indians to win the 2021 IPL Championship and have betting odds of 6.50. However, those odds should change after their captain S Iyer suffered a serious injury in the first ODI against England.
Iyer has reportedly dislocated his left shoulder and will miss the remainder of the ODI series. Unconfirmed reports suggest that it will take a minimum of 6 weeks for him to recover and he will miss the first half of the 2021 IPL. There are also rumours floating around that the injury is serious enough for him to miss the entire IPL.
This is a big blow for the Delhi Capitals as Iyer has not only done a good job leading the side but has also made significant contributions with the bat. The Capitals have just a couple of weeks to come up with a new plan and appoint a new skipper. The three choices to replace S Iyer include R Ashwin, R Pant and former Australian skipper Steve Smith.
Given the fact that Iyer is out, our betting experts don’t expect the Delhi Capitals to win the 2021 IPL. If you want to bet on the on the India vs. England ODI series, you can do so below.
