UFC259 will feature three title fights on a stacked card. We will cover the three title fights, give you the betting odds that are featured on Bet365 and share our views as to who we think will win.
Adesanya vs. Blachowicz
This will be the first time that UFC lightheavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz will defend his strap. His first title defense is going to be against UFC middleweight champ Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya. Bet365 has Adesanya as the betting favorite with odds of 4/9 while Blachowicz is the underdog with odds of 15/8.
The bookmakers have Adesanya as the favorite because he has never lost a fight in the UFC and is one of the best strikers in MMA. They are also taking into consideration that this title fight will most likely be played out on the feet as both fighters like to stand and trade. If Adesanya was fighting someone with a strong wrestling pedigree or a black belt in BJJ, the odds might have been slightly different.
However, we don’t believe the odds should favour Adesanya in this fight. The last three fighters who moved up from middleweight to fight Blachowicz as lightheavyweight lost. We think Blachowicz has too much of that Polish power in his hands which is going to be a problem for Adesanya.
Blachowicz needs to make sure that he does not take too much damage while trying to go for the KO. We don’t expect this fight to go the distance and expect Blachowicz to win by KO or TKO.
Nunes vs. Anderson
Amanda Nunes has ruled supreme in the women’s bantamweight and featherweight division. The UFC has struggled to find worthy opponents to challenge Nunes and the latest opponent to step up will be Australian Megan Anderson.
Bookmakers have Nunes as the heavy favorite with odds of 1/12 while Anderson is a massive underdog at 7/1. Nunes is definitely the better striker and has shown massive improvement on the ground. This is most likely going to be a one-sided fight unless Nunes gets complacent and gives Anderson an opening to KO out or submit her.
We will side with the bookmakers on this one and go with Amanda Nunes.
Yan vs. Sterling
The third title fight at UFC 259 will see Petr Yan defend his bantamweight belt against number one contender Aljamain Sterling. The two fighters have gone back and forth on social media for months in the lead-up to this fight and will finally get a chance to settle this in the cage.
The bookmakers have the champ, Peter Yan, slightly ahead with odds of 4/5 while the challenger Aljamain Sterling has odds of 1/1. We don’t believe this is going to be a close fight because Yan is clearly the better striker and can go at a brutal pace.
Sterling’s best chance of winning this fight is to take Yan to the ground and see if he can either submit him or keep him down and win three out of the five rounds. Sterling has made it clear that this is going to be his game plan. Even if Sterling takes Yan down, we believe that Yan has the speed and the wrestling to counter Sterling, so our money is on Yan to retain the belt.
