India are currently the favourite to win what would be for them, their second T20 World Cup, after winning the inaugural edition all those years ago.
It’s been pretty much plain sailing for them so far, a narrow defeat to South Africa in the Group Stages, aside. But there are still a potential two games to go and India have fallen at the semi-final stage in a couple of ICC World cups over the past few years.
Let’s remember that their semi-final opponents England have also impressed in this competition and boast of the likes of Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid some of the world’s best in this format.
Here are the IND vs ENG T20 best prop bets ahead of this mouth-watering clash.

India Top Batsman – Back Virat Kohli @5.00 with Betway
There were plenty of clouds over Virat Kohli coming into this tournament. Some argued he shouldn’t be on the side at all and that he was merely there on reputation and living off past glories.
But those doubts were quickly put to bed in the very first match India played, where Kohli single-handedly got his side close to the line in a chase against Pakistan, and then ultimately, over it.
Ravi Ashwin may have the honour of hitting the winning runs but let’s face it: it was all Kohli, his 82 off 53 not the highest score of the tournament but arguably the best knock in it so far.
He followed that up with a fine 62 off 44 against slightly easier opposition in the Netherlands, his score just edging out the 53 from skipper Rohit Sharma and the lightning-quick 51 of 25 from Sky Yadav (more in him in a bit) to top score for a second consecutive match.
And he is, after all, the leading run scorer in the tournament, with 246 runs. There are other reasons to think the 3.25 about Kohli making it four top batsman wins from six is a price worth pursuing on Betway.
He’s the man for the big occasions and he has already top-scored at the SCG this World Cup, the venue for the semi when he did so against the Netherlands.
So, he knows this wicket well and has already enjoyed success on it.
Man-of-the-match: Suryakumar Yadav @8.80 with Betway
If Kohli is all classic cricket shots, run accumulation and well-paced innings with acceleration at the end, then team-mate Sky Yadav is cut from a slightly different cloth.
Sky is currently the best T20 batsman in the world. That’s not an opinion, that’s what the ICC T20I rankings say after he recently overtook Pakistan keeper/batsman Mohammad Rizwan to the top spot.
It’s important to understand why despite not necessarily being the top run scorer in the past 12 months in T20Is, he occupies the Number 1 position. So, what’s the relevance of all this?
It’s that Sky may not top score for India as per above, where we fancy Kohli’s chances, instead. But that doesn’t mean that he can’t walk away with the man-of-the-match award.
Take India’s win over the Netherlands. Kohli top scored with 62 off 44 but it was Yadav who was MOM after his blistering 51 off 25 (strike rate 204) that included seven fours and a six.
For good measure, he followed that up with a second man-of-the-match award after top-scoring against Zimbabwe with 61 off 25, playing some of the best and most innovative shots we’ve seen all tournament. So that’s now two awards for him in just five matches.
The other point to make about man-of-the-match award beyond runs and strike rates is their context in the match. A winning knock under the utmost pressure and being there at the end of a chase could be regarded as a more vital one than a more pedestrian contribution at the top of the order.
And no player at this World Cup is arguably more of a game-changer than Sky. Assuming India win (the MOM almost always comes from the winning side) and they’re justified favourites to beat England, then he’ll have every chance.
Alex Hales to score a 50 @4.20 with Betway
Hales hasn’t had the best of tournaments so far after being fancied as a Top Batsman contender on the back of returning to the side after a three-year absence.
In fact, he started very slowly indeed with scores of just 9, 19 and 7 in his first three knocks.
Considering two of them were against Ireland and Afghanistan and you can see why he may have been in danger of being dropped. But England kept faith in him, and he rewarded them.
In their crucial win against New Zealand, he scored with 52 and was then unlucky not to get to 50 for a second match running. He was on 47 before the brilliant Hasaranga de Silva got him out.
But like Kohli, he’s a man for the big occasions and his strike rate is so good that he may just need to be around for say 10 overs to get to 50.
There’s another factor in his favour. The game will be played at the SCG where he’s played dozens of games over the years in the Big Bash.
It’s not his home ground because his Big Bash League side the Sydney Thunder plays at the Sydney Showground, not here. But he’s played plenty of times in the Sydney derby against the Sixers, who do play here, and normally with success.
