India vs. Sri Lanka – Betting Odds and Predictions For First ODI On July 18
India will start their tour of Sri Lanka with a three match ODI series and wind it up with a three match T20 series. All three ODI’s will take place at the RPS Stadium in Colombo and will be a D/N affair.
The dates for the ODI tour had to be changed after a number of Sri Lankan players and staff tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be quarantined after returning from England. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLCB) requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the tour dates and the BCCI obliged.
The SLCB has also put together a backup Sri Lankan squad who are on standby in case any of the regular players are unable to play the ODI series. The Sri Lankan cricket team is also dealing with internal issues which forced a sudden captaincy change from Kusal Perera to Dasun Shanaka.

India vs. Sri Lanka – First ODI – Betting Odds
The first choice Indian cricket team is currently in England preparing for a 5 match test series. The BCCI has sent across what many will call an India A team to play the three match ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka.
Even without the regular Indian team, the bookmakers have India as a heavy betting favorite for the first ODI. 10Cric has given India odds of 1.16 to win while Sri Lanka are underdogs with odds of 4.50.
Given the fact that Sri Lanka have a new captain, might miss some of their experienced players and their poor showing on late, it is no surprise to see Sri Lanka as an underdog even though they are playing at home.
India vs. Sri Lanka – First ODI – Betting Predictions
It’s still too early to tell what the playing XI for Sri Lanka is going to look like for the first ODI or the rest of the ODI series. We will get an idea as we get closer to match day. We have a much better idea of what the playing XI for India will be like and it does look a strong team even without the presence of captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma.
The BCCI selected S Dhawan to captain this squad and he will likely open the batting along with P Shaw. S Yadav is likely to bat at 3, Manish Pandey at 4 and S Samson at 5. The Pandya brothers are likely to occupy the 6 and 7 positions. The bowling line-up looks good with B Kumar returning to the ODI squad along with D Chahar, N Saini and Y Chahal.
If India manages to win the first ODI and do so convincingly, they will be in the driver’s seat and make it very difficult for Sri Lanka to bounce back and win the ODI series. Even though India is playing an A side, the experience and depth of talent looks a lot stronger than any team Sri Lanka can field.
India vs. Sri Lanka – First ODI – Verdict
We got to back the sportsbooks as we think India is not only going to win the first ODI but also the series. If you are looking to bet on the first ODI, think about putting your money on India. The bigger punt is to see whether India can win the series 3-0 or 2-1.
