As we reach the close of the first true summer month in India, the horse racing season is heading for a much-needed lull. But we still have events taking place in two racecourses in the country – in the cool hills of Ooty and the hot plains of Delhi. For this weekend’s Indian horse racing tips, we will be focusing on two races scheduled to take place in the Delhi Race Course on Sunday.

What Are Our Indian Horse Racing Tips For The Weekend?

1. The Global Stud Million

This race is one you should not to miss. Especially if you want an early look at some of the horses that may dominate the Delhi racing scene in the years to come. It is open to 3-year old horses, and at 1600m should offer plenty of racing action. The race acceptances show 8 horses in the running. Furthermore, most of them have run at least 3 races this season. Here are our top Indian horse racing tips for the race:

– Top Picks

Top Secret – This horse had a slightly underwhelming start to his career in December 2018. It subsequently had a change of trainer and was sidelined for 3 months. But this bay colt has been in brilliant form on his comeback, winning both his races in March within the span of 3 days. Now well rested after nearly a month’s break, he looks in fine fettle for the Sunday race. Having already won the 1600m event, he should be the top horse for this contest.

Veerabhadra – This bay filly has had a good start to her career, having scored two wins and a third-place finish out of four races. Like Top Secret, she too had a two-month spell on the sidelines in 2019. But her comeback has seen mixed results. A fine win in a 1400m race was followed by a lackluster 8th place in her last race on 28th March. Trained by Bharat Singh, Veerabhadra will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday.

Zelbet – Yet another bay filly in the race, Zelbet is in impressive form. She has won both of her last two races this season. This will be the 4th race of her short career, and though it is longer than her past events, she should not be underestimated. Trained by Rajinder, she is clearly one to watch for in the Sunday race.

Our Pick – Top Secret is our favourite for the win since he has both experience and form in his favour. This is of course if the odds makers list it at 5/1. Veerabhadra is our pick for the contender, despite his poor showing in the last race. As for Zelbet, we don’t know her capabilities in the longer race formats, which is why we consider her as an outside chance for now.

2. The Shrimati Meena Devi Sarpanch Memorial Plate

This is an invitational event for all horses with ratings above 40. Therefore, the Class 3 race should make for an interesting spectacle on Sunday. Ten horses have signed up for the event, so it will be a crowded course for sure. This is the fourth race of the evening. Here are our top three Indian horse racing tips for the event:

– Top Picks

Gleneagles – We had this gelding in our last race preview as one of the top picks for last week’s 1100m event at Delhi. Despite his brilliant form in the run-up to that event, he managed to secure just a 5th place. Nevertheless, there is no doubting his pedigree or abilities. We therefore still think that Gleneagles is a good pick for this Sunday’s race.

Jungle Wave – Though not as experienced as Gleneagles, this 3-year-old filly has been in decent nick in recent months, winning her last two races. Granted, those races were on either side of a 10-week layoff. Nevertheless, her performance on 15th April, where she won by a handsome 1.75 lengths, gives us confidence. Trained by Ajay Sharma, she should make a formidable opponent on Sunday for all other horses.

Ponty Rossa – this right here is a textbook variant of a darkhorse. After an excellent start to the season in November-December 2018, peppered with wins and top three finishes, Ponty Rossa had a spell of 11 weeks outside the tracks. On his comeback race last week, he only managed an 8th out of 9 horses finish. But he is an excellent sprinter and if he can rekindle his old form, he could surprise everyone on Sunday.

Our Pick – Jungle Wave’s chances look good on paper, and she is our top pick for Sunday given a 5/1 listing by the book-makers. A close second is Gleneagles, while worthy of a long shot punt is Ponty Rossa.
