After the disappointment of heavy rains cancelling racing on January 7th, racing action returns in full earnest to the Guindy racecourse on the 13th. This is Race Day 11 of the 2020 – 2021 Madras Races, and it will be a busy day on the tracks with 8 races. Our focus will be squarely on the fourth event of the day – a race called The Mysore Race Club Cup.
Before taking a gander at the horses on the race card, here is a quick look at the race basics:

The Contenders

The top-rated horse at 42 coming into this race is a 4-year-old chestnut gelding. Sired by Saamidd (GB) off dam Marisa Go (CAN), he started racing in 2019. Star Templar has a 1-0-2 record from 8 starts. His recent races have yielded 5-10 (after an 8-month break).
#2 Otus
Sired by the legend Kingda Ka (AUS) off Golden Bright (USA), Otus is a 5-year-old bay gelding with zero wins to his name (14 starts). But in terms of top 4 finishes, he is quite reliable at 0-3-3-3. He also has a decent form at 7-4-3 (after a spell of 9 months).
#3 Shreya’s Pet
5-year-old bay mare with 19 starts to her credit, she carries a 39 rating. Her sire is Carnival Dancer (GB). With a 2-3-2-4 overall finish record, she is a reliable one. But recent form is quite disappointing at 8-6-8, returning after a spell of 8 months.
#4 City of Sails

#7 Welcome Chakkaram
Previously called Welcome Wonder, this 5-year-old chestnut gelding is the son of Corporate Jungle and Triemhese Tirim (both USA). He is the lowest-rated at 27, with 9 starts yielding 1-0-1-1. That sole victory came a year ago at Chennai at the same distance.
Top Picks for Mysore Race Club Cup (Winner)
Of the two 40+ rated horses in this race, #2 Otus seems to have the best prospects as he has experience racing in a higher Class and some good runs at the longer distances above 1600m. 14 races in, the son of Kingda Ka is due for a win and it could come in this race on Wednesday. You can also follow our horse race betting guide.
Of the other horses, #4 City of Sailsseems a good pick with wins in Class 3 and good form in a recent 2000m race (2nd place). He is also middle of the pack in terms of rating and weight allowance, with considerable experience.
As a rather exciting young prospect, #5 Blue Patent is a long shot pick, with a recent win at the same distance, albeit in Class 5. But he is young and has good bloodlines. But he is untested in this class.
