The UFC just finished a very successful pay per view card with UFC 262 taking place in Houston, Texas in front of a sold out arena. However, UFC Fight Night Font vs. Garbrandt will once again take place at the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada with no fans in attendance.
The UFC has decided to continue to host Fight Night cards at the Apex and its pay per view cards in packed stadiums. This fight card will be headlined by an exciting fight in the bantamweight division as former champ Cody Garbrandt makes his return to the Octagon and takes on the dangerous Rob Font.
There are a number of other exciting fights on both the prelims as well as the Main Card. If you are interested on betting on MMA fights, go ahead and register at any one of the sportsbooks listed below. It only takes a couple of minutes to sign-up.
Font vs. Garbrandt
There is not a lot of difference between these two fighters as they seem to be equally matched in their skills, experience and KO power. Bet365 seems to think that way as well, as both fighters currently have odds of 1.90 each.
Rob Font has some impressive wins under his belt beating Sergio Pettis, Ricky Simon and the dangerous Marlon Mores in his last three fights. A win over Cody Garbrandt will definitely give him a lot more of the limelight and set himself up for a push at a title shot. One thing that may work against or work for Rob Font is the lack of fight time he has in the last two years.
Font has fought just once in 2019 and 2020. It may be a bad thing due to the possibility of ring rust but also a good thing as he has taken very little damage in the last two years.
Garbrandt is coming off an impressive KO win over Raphael Assuncao in June 2020. Interestingly, Assuncao was the last man to beat Ro Font. Garbrandt will be keen on getting another impressive win under his belt and pushing for another shot at the title. We don’t know what kind of Garbrandt we are going to get on Saturday night as the former champ has had to deal with a lot of injuries.
There are also reports that Garbrandt has split with his wife and we have to take this into consideration as it could impact his mental game and performance. Due to the numerous x factors associated with Garbrandt, we are going to put our money on Rob Font.
Xiaonan vs. Esparza
The co-main event will feature former strawweight champ Carla Esparza take on the dangerous Chinese fighter Yan Xiaonan. Bookmakers have Yan as the slight betting favorite with odds of 1.80 while Esparza has odds of 2.0.
Yan has 13 wins to her name and just 1 loss which is one of the reasons why she is the favorite. Her last win was over veteran Claudia Gadelha and a win over Esparza could push her closer to a title shot. Esparza is coming off two big wins over Alexa Grasso and Marina Rodriguez. A win over Yan could get Esparza a long awaited title shot. We are putting our money on Esparza.
Hermansson vs. Shahbazyan
This middleweight fight is slipping under the radar but this can turn out to be fight of the night. Hermansson is coming off two losses and will be very keen on putting away the young Edmen Shahbazyan who is coming off his first loss after Derek Brunson finished him in June 2020.
Bookmakers have Hermansson as the favorite and we agree with them as Hermansson is a submission specialist and Shahbazyan showed that he does not have a strong ground game against Brunson. Our money is on Hermansson for this one.
