Racing action is starting to pick up the pace at several clubs across India in July, with Kolkata and Mysore both joining Bangalore after the customary break. But for this weekend’s horse racing tips, we only have races in Bangalore to choose from at the sportsbooks. And Sunday promises to be a real treat for Indian horse racing bettors, too, with the Grade 2 Maharaja’s Gold Cup pitting this year’s Indian Derby winner against the winner of the prestigious Invitation Cup.
What Are Our Indian Horse Racing Tips For July 14th?
Naturally, this matchup will be a part of our Bangalore Race Club preview, along with one other Class 3 race:
1. The Maharaja’s Gold Cup
This is a marquee event in the Bangalore racing calendar, with a penchant for some really intriguing matchups. At 2200m, it is the only graded race of its kind run at that sort of long distance in India. The term race is open to horses aged four years and above. There will be 8 horses at the starting posts on Sunday, down from the initial nine, as Oomph was forced to withdraw. As already mentioned, the 2019 edition of this Grade 2 race will see Star Superior, winner of the KF Ultra Indian Derby take on Adjudicate, winner of the grade 1 Indian Turf Invitation cup
These two are without a doubt among our top three horse racing tips for the day:
Star Superior
Star Superior, the progeny of Excellent Art (GB) and Ramjet, is a habitual winner, with eight wins out of thirteen runs so far. His recent form has been stupendous with a record of 1-2-1-1-3-1. Trained by Rajesh Narredu, he has already won once against his top rival for this race Adjudicate. But he has also lost once against her, making this race harder to call. This bay rig will be piloted by his regular jockey Suraj Narredu on Sunday.
Adjudicate
If there is any horse in the competition with a legitimate chance of beating Star Superior, it has to be this dark brown filly from the loins of the powerful Multidimensional (IRE), off dam Alvarita. Adjudicate’s recent form is even better than Star Superior, with four wins out of five: 1-1-2-1-1. Like her rival, she has also won in long distance events above 2000m. On Sunday, A Sandesh will be jockey of this filly who hails from the yards of trainer JE Mckeown.
Roberta
Though Roberta shares the same genes from Multidimensional as Adjudicate, this bay filly is a bit of wild card, given her record of minor niggles. Trained by P Shroff, she could upset the apple cart on Sunday if the stars align for her. Recent record is not very positive, though, given her tenth position in the last race skewing her otherwise excellent run – 4-1-1-2-1-10. But she is a stayer, with most of her wins coming above the 2000m distance.
Our Pick – It is too close to call between the top two horses in this race. But if we had a gun to our head, we would choose the Derby Winner Star Superior over Adjudicate as long as the odds makers start listing at 5/1. That is only because the former had a better win margin than the filly in their previous matchups. Roberta is capable of pulling an upset and should be a great long shot pick.
2. The Yeravada Stud Plate
Scheduled immediately after the Maharaja’s Cup at 04:30 PM, this is a class 3 race open to horses rated between 30 and 50. It carries over a distance of 1400m and has nine horses in the selections. Admittedly, the quality of the field is not that high, but there are some decent horses in the running for a combined purse of INR 583200, or roughly GBP 6700.

Constantinople
Constantinople is a rather fresh young bay filly with just six races under her belt, with a recent record of 3-2-7-1-4-4. Sired by Burden of Proof (IRE) out of dam Corsican Gal, she is trained by SS Attaollahi. The vastly experienced P Trevor will be her jockey on Sunday.
Mohican
The son of Net Whizz (USA) and Moselle (GB), this bay gelding is from the yard of trainer Neil Darashah. Mohican has had just two runs so far, and has impressed with a win and a number two spot. Nazerul Alam will be his jockey in Sunday’s race.
Renegade
A three-year-old bay gelding sired by Royal Gladiator off Mischievous Rose, Renegade is showing clear signs of progress. Just four races into his career, his record reads 10-8-4-1. Trained by Dominic, he will be piloted by PS Chouhan in the Stud Plate.
Our Pick – We think Renegade will continue his impressive run and win this one if the bookmakers begin listing at 5/1, but Constantinople could pose a challenge. Due to his short career, Mohican is a decent long shot pick.
