Arion Horse Company Calcutta 1000 Guineas – Race Card, Racecourse, Horses & Jockey Details
The Calcutta 1000 Guineas is a Grade III term races event for 3-year old fillies only. It is the 6th race on Saturday at the Calcutta Race Club, with a scheduled start at 03:30 PM. Six fillies will be competing for a purse of INR 15,00,000 in this prestigious racing event. The total distance of the race is 1600m.
Let’s take a closer look at the six competitors:
1. ARETHA – Win Legend (JPN) – Wind of Soul
Racing in the third event of her career is the dark brown filly Aretha, trained by JE McKeown. One of the lowest-rated fillies in the race at 38, she will start with her regular jockey C Umesh in the saddle. Aretha comes well rested after a 2-month break – her last race was a 1400m maiden she won quite comfortably at Ooty in late September. Here recent record reads 3-1.
2. CHOEGYAL – Tenth Star (IRE) – Shades of White
Keeping Aretha company at the bottom of the rating chart is the 37 rated bay filly from the stables of trainer Vijay Singh. Like Aretha, she comes into this race with a win – a 1400m maiden affair at Kolkata at the end of September. The well-rested Choegyal will have jockey A Imran Khan in the saddle for this race.
3. DELPHINI – Bated Breath (GB) – Performer (GB)
The dark brown filly trained by Aashay Doctor is one of the more experienced fillies in this year’s 1000 Guineas, with a run of 3-1-1-2-7 across her last five races. She also has a rating of 53. Although she has been raced at 2000m, her best performances have come in the 1200-1400m classes. Delphini’s jockey on Saturday will be PS Chouhan, who has a 1-2 record with her at Kolkata. Her last race was a month ago.
4. EUPHRATES – Phoenix Tower (USA) – Age of Magic (USA)
The bay daughter of the famous Phoenix Tower is yet to finish outside the top 3 in her five races so far. Under the tutelage of trainer C Alford, Euphrates has steadily improved, clocking a recent record of 2-3-3-3-1. Having never raced at 1600m here, she comes with a rating of 48. Jockey Shailesh Shinde will hope to repeat the win from their last race in September – a Class 4 1400m race.
5. KAMILAH – Roderick O’ Connor (IRE) – My Lakshmi
SK Sunderji’s filly comes into her third race ever with high hopes of prolonging an undefeated run that currently stands unbroken at 2 races. She has won at both Mumbai and Kolkata at 1400m events. The impressive CS Jodha returns to ride Kamilah after a winning run at the Relevance Handicap Race on 6th November. On the basis of her strong wins, she has a 52 rating for this race.
6. SCRUPLES – Air Suppport (USA) – Schiavone
The dark brown daughter of Air Support is already a veteran with 7 races under her belt (3 wins, 1 runner-up, 2 fourth). Trained by SS Attaollahi, Scruples has raced all over India – Bangalore, Mumbai, Ooty, and now Kolkata. She has several impressive wins on either side of a woeful 10th finish at Mumbai. Jockey Sandesh will take over her reins on Saturday for the first time ever. She is the top-rated horse of the event with a score of 56.
Arion Horse Company Calcutta 1000 Guineas (Grade-III) – Betting Tip
For punters looking for a reliable, low-risk bet, Scruples is a fine choice in the Calcutta 1000 Guineas. Scruples has odds of 2.50 and we think Scruples will win the Calcutta 1000 Guineas race. You will make a profit of INR 150 if you put INR 100 and the odds hold.
Those seeking bigger thrills and wins can consider Kamilah or Euphrates with odds of 5.00 & 6.50 respectively. Aretha and Choegyal would be considered largely as upsets should either of them manage to finish ahead of the pack.
Betting Tip: Scruples (2.50)
