Along with Pune, Hyderabad Race Club is one of the two race clubs in India with Sunday racing action this week. Day 5 of the Monsoon Races at Hyderabad subsequently see the schedule packed with eight intriguing races.
As usual, we will be taking a closer look at the two most prestigious races of the day, and here they are:
1. The Air Command Cup
This is Class 1 race open to horses above the age of three years. The 1400m race also has restrictions related to ratings – the runners all have to be above 75. There are six horses on the cards and all of them look like seasoned campaigners. The sixth race of the day scheduled to kick off at 03:45 PM IST has a total prize purse of INR 9,00,000, which is just about 10,000 GBP.

Highly Acclaimed
Highly Acclaimed is a five-year-old bay gelding sired by Phoenix Tower (USA) with Play That Tune (GB) as the dam. He comes from the stables of trainer Ahmed Alam Khan. High Acclaimed had a red hot run of form recently, with four wins out of his last five starts (1-1-1-1-5). With jockey LVR Deshmukh in the saddle this Sunday, he will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after that fifth-place performance in his last race.
Exclusivenorthwind
The progeny of a union between Net Whizz (USA) and dam Amended (GB), this four-year-old is a bay colt. A ward of trainer RH Sequeira, he has five wins and another six top-four performances out of 11 runs. With a recent record of 1-1-1-4-2, he subsequently looks like a good prospect in the upcoming race. Koushik will pilot this horse on Sunday.
Moondancer
A five-year-old bay rig sired by Excellent Art (GB) off dam Pleasure Hunt, Moondancer is looking for his first win in more than a year. Trained by M Satyanarayana, he has six wins out of 12 runs which is quite decent. Jockey Rohit Kumar will be in the saddle this Sunday.
Our Picks – It is a toss-up between Exclusivenorthwind and Highly Acclaimed, with the latter being our choice for number 1 pick by a slender margin as long as the bookies start listing 5/1. Moondancer is a fine long shot choice.
2. The Silverado Plate
This is a Division 1 race for young three-year-old maiden horses. At 1200m, it is a short sprint with a crowded field of 11 horses. Half of them have raced at less than two events, though. Therefore, experience or current form is not a factor here, while most of the challenges are unknown quantities. This is the fifth race on Sunday’s program, scheduled to start at 03:15 PM IST.
Here are the three horses we think will have a good day on Sunday:
Moskova
Although she has only had one run, Moskova has the lineage that inspires a lot of confidence. This bay filly is the issue of Multidimensional (IRE) and dam Brushed Aside (GB). She is also from the stables of LVR Deshmukh and will have star jockey Suraj Narredu in the saddle on Sunday.
Linewiler
With five runs under his kitty already, this bay gelding is the most experienced horse in this race. His parents are West Virginia (USA) and Shades of Beauty. Moreover, Linewiler already has two second-places on his record, which is quite promising. Trained by LD Silva, Linewiler will be piloted by C Umesh for this race.
Born Greek
Another runner getting ready for his sixth race, Born Greek is the highest-rated horse for this event. Sired by Hymn (IRE) off All The Rage, he comes from the stables of N Ravinder Singh. RN Darshan will handle the reins for this race.
Our Picks – Despite her lack of experience, Moskva is our favourite to win this event if the odds makers start listing at 5/1. As our number-two pick, we have Linewiler, with Born Greek as the long-shot choice.
